Thoughts on a canopy for baby?

I love, love, love canopies over beds. It gives it such a graceful feel! 
But as a FTM, I'm a little afraid that a baby could wrap themselves in the canopy and choke themselves! 
Is this just an irrational fear?

That's a big nope for me. They get their hands on everything. Not only that I just don't get the point but to each their own.

We have one over our cot but it's not close enough to touch the baby so it's completely safe :) it's also a mesh/lace material so it's completely breathable if somehow it does cover her.

I think they are beautiful but my fear is when the baby is old enough to stand/pull themselves up they will pull on the part that hangs down and pull it down or tangle themselves in it so I didn't use one.
