Size of flats?

Hello ladies. I will be sewing my own flats. Could you recommend a good size to go from newborn to toddler? My online search showed sizes ranging from 26" squares all the way to 32" squares.

Im making mine as well. I figured 28 inches,  after being hemmed.  Some women were complaining that anything bigger was too bulky on a NB and once they get biggwr they're eating solid foods so you dont need as many layers for holding in watery poos 😇💩😇

I'm using prefolds so I'm not sure on the size of flats but if you go to www.greenmountaindiapers.com they have detailed descriptions of all their products and I bet you could get an idea of sizing for flats. Good luck!
