Coming Home Outfit - What do you think?

Question

Looking for a coming home outfit and I don't need it to be fancy - mostly searching for a side snap tee as I hear they are best for newborn belly buttons. We are waiting until birth to see if we have a boy or girl, so this fits the bill. ☺️ My only concern is that I don't know how to dress a baby weather-wise. I probably wouldn't use the onesie - just the long sleeve side snap and long sleeve footie pants. Is this too much for July in the Midwest?

I wouldn't worry too much about overheating in that outfit. Remember that baby just came out of a nice 98.6 degree home into a bright, cold, loud world. I've also heard that newborns need basically one more layer than you do. So, if you'll be in a t-shirt, say, baby would need long sleeves.

I brought my baby home in that outfit. I let my 4 year old pick it out. We didn't know the gender, so I got two different hats we ended up just using the onesie and pants. You'll be taking the baby straight from the hospital to the car to your house. I wouldn't worry too much about the weather. As long as your car isn't overly hot, the baby will be fine.

I personally found the "one more layer than you" rule to be crap for my daughter at least haha. She was always warm! July in the Midwest is HOT, which I am sure you know (I live right outside Chicago). I would stick with a short sleeve shirt and pants. And a light blanket if needed. I had a New Years baby and she only wore a long sleeve onesie and pants and I used a thick blanket over her! They're nice a cuddled up in their car seat, so short sleeve's is usually perfectly fine in summer and use like a light swaddle blanket over him if you think it needs a bit more warmth. Mom instinct though is where it's at. You just know haha.

We are in northern Minnesota, and everyone has told me to be sure to have tons of long sleeves even in the summer. I would think it would be just fine where I'm at, but southern part of the Midwest gets a lot warmer than we do.

The first thing on my babies to get cold has always been their feet. I think the hat thing is just cute and not really practical. Our LO will probably come home in a cute onsie, socks, and a terry cloth swaddle for added comfort.

I live in Chicago and that's personally to warn for a July baby. My baby was a June baby and even then that would have be to warn. Babies can overheat quickly in the car seats. I'd go with something lighter and short sleeves and a muslin blanket if you wanted more.
