How important is your child's use of technology in school?

Question

I'm a private elementary school teacher. Our funds for technology at the elementary level are very low. Each teacher has a set of 4-5 ipads per classrooms of 16-18. We have only 6 computers for student use. The kids barely learn how to type.

Obviously, I feel that in this day and age, incorporating technology and teaching how to use it is very important.

What do you think? Would you change your child's school based on the technology available?

Idk if I want my elementary student learning everything on iPads. Computers are great don't get me wrong but I kinda want my child to learn the only fashion way using books, pen to paper, etc.

For parents who have a problem with iPads- I'm high school so obviously my experience might differ, but by large at my school iPads are used for reading books and quick research. It's not like teachers are just letting apps teach the class. 
Typing is a vital skill. Kids without access to computers to learn to type are at a huge disadvantage for future employment. 
I think technology pairs with teachers who can skillfully integrate it is an amazing tool in the classroom.

As much as we not agree with everything being technology based - the fact is that our current world is! It's important for our children to be up to date on this fast paced, ever changing world if we want them to succeed. As much as we may prefer our old methods.

I think people rely far too much on technology and it shouldnt be used on a regular basis in an elementary school setting. I mean ipads? Come on.

At that young of an age, I wouldn't encourage it too much. they usually get enough of that at home. They need old fashioned, low-maintence things to not overstimulate their minds. they need to play outside and read physical books. Yes, it's good they understand how technology works and that it's out there...but let kids be kids. They'll get enough screen time when they have 10 hours of homework after school every day to do when they're older.

I think it's really important to have technology integration in areas where kids are less likely to have access to computers or tablets in their home life. Unfortunately the schools with the best technology are also going to generally be the ones where every kid already has their own iPad or laptop since the schools get better support.

I'm sorry, but I just cannot agree with a world so technologically involved. There was a day & age where people used books, and a pencil with paper to get things done. I'm having a really difficult time with the whole evolution of technology & I think that people get so absorbed in their electronics that they forget how to be people. My kids aren't getting squat in the way of iPads/iPhones/iAnything. They'll get flip phones with immediate family as their contacts & a clunky ass computer monitor for school. No fucking way.

As much as it pains me how reliant were becoming on technology I do think IT schooling needs to be better and more widely taught in school. 
I'm currently doing an course for my "computer driving license" now to me it's a snore because I love computers and am a bit of a whizz with one. However a lot of my peers are struggling with basic things like editing documents or password protecting, which really should be taught in school.

Tablet computers are handy for carrying around work on for quick access and editing when your in college. Kids should know how to utilise these for more than just Boom Beach and Facebook.
