Small wedding and big reception?

Thinking about having a small wedding ceremony with siblings, parents, and grandparents. And then having a big reception with extended family and friends. Good idea/bad idea?

Might as well have the wedding and reception at the same place, i banked on 20 people and ended up with 70-80! I think you'd be better off inviting everyone at once. Do you have a venue picked out yet? Also how big is the family? Id make a list of both sides it might sound dumb but you don't want to offend anyone either- if you're paying for their plate then imo you might as well have everyone together. believe me there was so much drama at my wedding lol i only invited family and we each invited 2 friends.

Good idea but the wedding/ceremony doesn't cost you anything, or only a small fee so why not invite everyone? The cost is in the reception...

Me and my s.o. are just going to the town hall and getting married and then throwing a huge party after,  I want our vows to be just us' cause WE are the only ones who will make or break our marriage so our vows should be very intimate, but fuck yes to a huge ass party after lol

If you get married at a church, there's a mandatory donation and whoever feels like it comes. Ceremonies are typically optional.

I did that. Basically because only certain people could be there for the actual ceremony due to our religion. The reception is the fun part anyways.
