Honestly, I was supposed to have protected sex for a week after I got mine and the very next day I had unprotected sex. I got lucky. I wouldn't suggest doing what I did

Usually after a week.. I've heard that if you get it the first 5 days during your period, then it starts working right away. I got my period the same day of my doctors appointment to get the first shot, and I had cramps and then the next day cramps were gone and bleeding was lighter and my period was only 3 days short. Up to this day, I've only had 1 period which lasted 2 weeks.
