Did anyone choose NOT to get any genetic testing?

genetic testing?" /> We were going to but they messed up at our 12 week appt and just did the heartbeat, even when I reminded them that we were doing the testing and that was the point of the appt. I missed the window for most of the tests, and we can still do the test for Down Syndrome but we may skip it. Our doctor said he can usually see signs of it on an ultrasound and our baby looked like she was growing right on track with no noticeable issues.

If you answer that there were "problems" it means there was an abnormality or genetic defect with the baby. (It wouldn't change our love for the child but I think it's important to prepare yourself since I work with special needs adults.)

We declined all genetic testing and I am due in about 9 weeks. So far everything looks great but even if it wasn't I would have carried to term (or as far as I was able). I also feel the stress of getting results that may not be 100% accurate was unnecessary.

I didn't get it. Haven't had the baby yet so idk but I know alot of people who didn't get it and the babies were all fine

I never got it done with my son. We had the typical talk with my dr abouy "if there are genetic defects, you can choose to terminate the pregnancy" blah blah. But my fiance and i both agreed that it doesnt matter. Never got the tests done and other than being born 6 weeks early(pre-e) my son is a healthy almost 2 year old.

From what I understand there are signs that can appear on the ultrasound and then there are the screening results. I had the screening results and the results were super low chance of downs, but my baby has/had(?) one of the ultrasound signs for it. The doctor told me not to worry though. She said they look for both a high chance screen and signs on the ultrasound, these two together are cause for concern.

So all this to say, you may get an ultrasound with a similar result to my baby and you might be more concerned than needed since you don't have the low chance screen to show the chances are still low.

Either way though, I think the doctor will prepare you for the likelihood of anything based on what information you see from baby here on out. And since you're concern is wanting to be prepared, I think they'll be able to give you rough estimates on chances based on ultrasounds.

Also, my baby isn't here yet so there's still a small chance the ultrasound thing was an indicator. But I feel prepared for that small chance. Hope you're able to get the same kind of reassurance from your doctor. Good luck!
