Fraternal or identical???

Question

Does anyone know if my twins could be identical or fraternal?? My doctor didn't say. And I am so curious as to what they are!!

They are most likely fraternal. They are di/di since they have their own sac and placenta.  There is a very small chance they could be identical if the egg split very early after being fertilized.

They can still be identical in 2 Sep sacs. Commonly if they share a placenta they will be identical, but the only 100% to know is when they are born. Ask your dr at the next visit. In that (early) ultrasound they may not have been able to see the placenta  (s) yet. Which is why the Dr may not of said/ discussed with you yet.

Agree they can have separate sacs and possibly still be identical.  But see the membrane in between them and how it gets larger at the end?  My tech told me that's called a "twin peak" and when it looks like that it's pretty certain they're fraternal.  If you goggle mo/di twins at the same gestation (means 2 sacs 1 placenta I rhink) it will usually show just a straight line that doesn't flare out like that.  Hope that helps.  And no I'm not a medical professional so I could be totally wrong...but had the same question at my first few ultra sounds and that's what I was told.  Oh and congrats!

Di/di twins. If they are boy/girl, then fraternal. If girl/girl or boy/boy, they can be either fraternal or identical.

There's a small chance they could be identical and have separate chorions and separate placentas. But if they're in the same chorion and are sharing a placenta, they are always identical.

Mine are in seperate sacs and are identical boys. Do you have two placentas or one? I only have one that the twins share which makes them identical!!!
