Diva cup & IUD?

Question

Just ordered the diva cup after seeing such wonderful reviews about menstrual cups. I had the copper IUD put in last year and ever since, my period has been very very heavy. I'm constantly changing super pads+ super plus tampons... Very nervous about leaks since they've happened recently.

Any one have experiences/advice they would like to share about using menstrual cup with heavy flow?

Before I started the pill, I had extremely heavy flow. I would soak through an ultra tampon in half an hour to an hour. Having a cup was so nice. I had to change it more often on my heavy days, probably every 3 hours, but it was soo much more comfortable than tampons, and I saved so much money on tampons. My flow is much lighter now because of the pull, and the cup is even more amazing. I can go all day without changing it. I empty it in the morning before I shower and again at night before I shower. I forget I'm on my period most days.

Speaking of diva cups, do you have to buy new ones each month or do they stay reusable? I have been seriously considering the cup. I always freak out about keeping my tampon in too long and sometimes it doesn't need to be changed except bc of time.

You're just supposed to replace it every year, and that's mostly because of staining. I've had mine since last February and it's completely fine. If you take care of it, boil it every month after your period is over, you probably won't have to replace it every year.
