Cystic Acne - Seeking Medical Help?

Ke
Hi there! I often get cystic acne,  and I don't think I could classify it as severe, but it definitely hurts a lot and interrupts my day on a regular basis. My problem is that I also have a long history with pimple popping and general skin picking. I know that popping them is by far the worst thing to do but I psychically can't stop myself. I get rather large and painful cystic acne and it is so painful that I pop it to temporarily relieve some pressure (Yes I know that does the opposite, but I am in so much pain I'm not thinking straight) and it becomes a scab. I have a big problem with skin picking, not just on my face, and it is becoming all to painful and messy to bear any more. I am going to go to the doctor this week and am wondering if anyone else has gone for similar reasons? I currently just have popped acne/scabs on my face and I cover them with large amounts of makeup (Also bad, I know. But I seriously look like a meth addict. I try to take it off as soon as I'm home to let it breathe) so will the doctor even 'believe' me that it's an issue? What types of medication are typically prescribed? ie: cream, pills, shots, etc. I'm a little nervous to go since it's not a pretty sight and I'm a bit embarrassed of it so any info would be appreciated.
