Did you receive a estimated cost of your child's delivery?

A few days ago I received a letter in the mail from my OBGYN stating that it will cost $3600+ to deliver my baby! Of course I have private insurance but to see that price shocked the mess out of me 😳 I'm only 10 weeks today due 11/16/16

Oh my lord... I'm so thankful I live in Canada right now 😅.. I was born in the states and my mom said she paid about $10,000 each for my sister and my deliveries.

The estimate I got from my doctor was about 3,000 as well. That was essentially just the bill for my doctor and nothing else. Thank god for insurance. Total billed just for delivery (no appointments) was about $9,500 for me and an additional $4,000 for baby. Luckily I only pay about $650 total after insurance.

With all of my children I did all natural births (no pain medication at all) to save on costs, and labored at home as long as I could. I spent 45 min-2 hrs  in the hospital before birthing and was released within 24-30 hrs after birthing and my bills were $50,000 was the smallest and $59,000 was the most expensive. I've had friends who birthed for 10+ hours and had epidurals and theirs were somewhere around $75-80,000... Thankfully we all had insurance but my friends regret getting pain medication due to the costs

Just reading thru the comments and it's craaaazy how much u all pay in America!?? Like what on earth!! Is that why so many try to go natural? Because u pay for pain relief? That seems so unfair😱

My OB estimated $4,700. And that's with a typical vaginal delivery. C-section is an extra $900-$1,200. I have private insurance, but my deductible is $5,000. So my insurance won't cover any of my pregnancy until after I pay $5,000 out of pocket.

Husband called insurance company and we only pay for the copay the nights we stay at the hospital, everything else is 100% covered. It's $100 a night for us with our insurance. We are very lucky to have awesome coverage

That is scary. 6 months ago my husband fractured his leg on a rope swing in Garner State Park. He was air evap lifted to the hospital and we got a bill in the mail for ....45,000.00 dollars! After submitting that too insurance I got a new bill for 33,000 dollars. I'm pregnant with twins and needless to say, that won't be getting paid any time soon!

I got a "prepay" statement from my office that said  we needed to have our portion paid before the baby comes. This is obsurd. Prepay for services?! What if something comes up. What if I need an extra visit between visit? I mentioned it to my Dr and he was like "they sent you what?!" I feel like our total was around 3k. Of course our portion is a percentage thanks to insurance. But, he sucky thing is...that's just for prenatal care. It doesn't even include delivery/Dr fees once you have the baby. You'll get billed again for those 😒
