Do you believe flag burning is a valid form of protest?

It's a given the U.S. flag holds a sacred place in the hearts of many Americans 
Some state people don't die for the flag, they die for our rights and freedoms. Some believe the flag is merely a representation (and not always a good one) of the American government and when protesting the government it has it's place as a form of protest.
Others believe flag burning is too divisive and provides no real encouragement for change. 
Others still become so enraged by flag burning because they feel it is disrespectful to the members of the American military.

Where do you stand on this subject?

I find it extremely disrespectful. Especially those who do it to the flag of the country they are living in! If you hate the country so much leave!

I think it is a valid form of protesting worth protecting. To many people care more about a flag burning than people being stripped of their rights or dying in the street.

With that being said I also believe the divisive nature of flag burning leaves little room for real conversation and change.

Until we stop giving so much reverence to the flag, burning it will do little bit piss people off and invite violence.

No, I don't think it's a valid form of protest. It's disrespectful, and a great way to get people not to take you seriously. If you don't like whatever place you live in, feel free to leave.

I believe it should remain protected free speech.

I think people do it in protest when they find what is going on particularly problematic or offensive.

I don't think individuals should take that protest personally.

You realise that by being so up in arms about it you are the one giving this act potency, it doesn't mean anything at all, it's a gesture, and it's one that you have given power to.

People light themselves on fire to protest. Just throwing that out there because it's a good alternative and because of the stigma surrounding flags/symbols it still gets a lot of attention.

However I'm not offended by burning them/crinkling them/reusing them because it is just that -symbolic. It's colored fabric. I want to feel patriotic about this but I've never known any vet to say they fought for fabric, they fought for peoples freedom.

It's merely a way to draw attention, but doesn't really do a good job because people focus on that act istead of the problem at hand.

i personally don't care, america was built on the deaths of the indegenious and the enslavement/murder of blacks. american history is tainted by the hatred and the oppression of minorities so i could give a fuck less about the flag.
