Sister in law troubles?

Question

My sister in law is four years older than my fiancé and I. She lives halfway across the country but my fiancé and all his siblings are very close. They love each other, which is part of why I am so happy to join this family!

But there's one thing that bothers me. She HATES kids, to the point where if one of her friends or family gets pregnant she says "they ruined their life" and when any of her siblings talk about getting married (two sets of us are engaged now) she states her disgust while saying she'd never marry her SO. And constantly gives everyone rude comments and ignores them.

I totally understand she can have her opinion, having kids and getting married aren't something everyone wants! I just don't think it's fair that we all have to silently take her judgement while she can openly criticize the rest of the family.

I've talked to my fiancé about us officially announcing our pregnancy to her and he wants to put it off as long as possible so she doesn't make us miserable! Which I see as unfair, I'm allowed to be happy, and I'm tired of her opinion being law within the family.

Should I talk to her or have my fiancé do it? Or nothing at all? Just looking for some outside views!

I have some family like that and we waited 27 weeks to tell them.. I didn't need their approval to enjoy my pregnancy... They've been distant but I've enjoyed myself... Let her hear through the grapevine... Her approval or comments shouldn't mean anything to you... If she says anything let husband take care of it.. I'm sure he's over it too... You wouldn't want him talking to your siblings when you said you would handle it..

Ok, so she hates kids and marriage. Let her be bitter and theres no need to tell her you're expecting.  Make your announcement to the family and screw her comments.  Ignore her and if she says something directly to you tell her to shove it, everyone isnt her and you dont care how she feels or what she thinks.  It's not her baby or her marriage.

I wouldn't tell her, tell everyone else and when she gets upset simply say she's spoilt it for herself. It may make her realise how her behaviour is effecting others 🙂

I wouldn't even know how to deal with it. I would have your fiancé talk to her first and if it doesn't help then you talk to her. But overall how she feels doesn't need to effect you or really matter in the grand scheme of things.

If your fiance doesn't want to tell her about the baby then dont. You'd be doing against his wishes. Now the next time she brings something up you can tell her to back off, that she has no say in what you guys do and she's being rude nd disrespectful.

The girl who was my best friend is exactly this way. When she found out I was pregnant she cried for weeks and begged me to abort it or let her push me down the stairs. She doesn't understand why I don't want to hang out with her anymore. My baby is due in 8 weeks now and I honestly don't think we will ever be able to be close again. It hurts me to think that to her my miracle is a mistake or a life ruiner. I'm sorry you are going through this. I know it's hard. I hope it works out for the best.
