Should Parents Know About Their Child's Sex Life?

Question

2 Questions: I am only asking about these in the case that the child is under 18 and still living with their parent(s)!

1. Should a parent have to approve their child having sex? For example, give them permission to, if the child is under 18?

2. Do you think a parent should know about their child's sex life, i.e. how often their child has sex, when, where, who, etc.?

The answer will be in the format "answer to the first question , answer to the second question".

It's kind of hard to give permission for them to have sex. If they wanna have sex it's going to happen. But I feel it's important to be involved with your child and who their with. You don't need to know how many times they're having sex, but it's good to know if and when they start. That way you can help them make correct desicions and help them with any concerns.

At most, they should know that their child is sexually active in case it comes up in a medical emergency. Aside from that, no I don't need to know something so personal to my child and much less approve their partners like it's 1870 again. All I need to do is coach them on sex safety, BC and the truth and nothing but the truth.

Well I wouldn't really give my child permission to have underaged sex and I don't know anyone who would. But I'll be sure they know which precautions to take and advise them to wait until they are older but I can't control everything. If a kid wants to have sex then they'll find a way no matter what. And I'd preferably not want to know when, where, etc. that's just creepy

If the child is comfortable talking about their sex life, then they should do so.

The parents don't really have a right to tell them how to feel/act on their sexual desires.

The best they can (and should) do is give their child proper advice, education and resources in the event that they do decide to become sexually active. That will also open up a window of trust, so the child is actually comfortable coming to them when the time comes.

They need to know but I believe that's up to the teenager to prove they're mature enough to tell their parent and ask for protection, but if the parent is abusive or over controlling I understand why they wouldn't

I don't think parents have to know, but my mum and I have discussed it. All she knows is that I have had sex before, and after finding out she was like "ew I don't wanna know about your sex life, stop talking" 😂😂😂

You can't force someone to tell anyone about their sex life. I know when I was having sex under the age of 18 I did EVERYTHING to make sure my parents didn't know. So should parents know? Yeah probably. Is every kid going to be comfortable enough to tell their parents? No. That's why sex Ed in schools is important. They can learn how to protect themselves on their own if they're too uncomfortable talking to mom and dad.
