What's a midwife and what do they do?

My province is bringing back midwives. What is a midwife and what do they do? I would like to know all the goods things about having one :)

I see a midwife. They do everything that baby docs do. She delivers the baby and everything.

They are pretty much the same as a normal baby doctor, where I go every appointment I have I get 1 of 5 mid wives there. They let me pick which one I want to be there to deliver my baby girl. ❤️ I always get 5 pictures when  I have a ultrasound done and they give me an option of getting the pictures on cds or paper.

They do prenatal, delivery and post natal until 6 weeks pp. The only things they cannot do is surgery or epidurals. They can deliver in your home, at a birth Center and a hospital. I had a midwives with my first and now am with the same midwives with this second baby. I love them so much and they have given me more care then my regular doctor does and she's very caring.

Midwives are people who care for women through pregnancy and birth. Here they are often nurses who have gone on to do additional training (3 more years) about just pregnancy and birth so they're really well qualified to deal with it.  They do most antenatal check ups in the UK and also deliver many babies - but they only do natural births, so if you need medical interventions like forceps, then a doctor takes over.
