Baby buying/baby shower

Maybe it's just me, but now knowing that I'm having a baby boy I want to start buying everything I need/want lol. I know it's better to wait, but I'll be on leave around the time of my baby shower and I don't want to leave it all to my hubby to buy the rest of the stuff we need. We are going to make a baby registry at target & babies R Us with only very needed items (this isn't my first baby but my last was 7 years ago) Since I make okay and can afford it now I'd like to buy some stuff every time I get paid. I'd just like to know if there are any of you Mamas that did this or if you think it is just better to wait... From the moms that are perhaps on baby #2 or more, or even some of you who've had your showers already, what are some items you just did not receive. That you have to buy afterwards or even things the little extras that you liked to have. Please and thank you!!
