Baby's last name?

I don't know where to ask this. Baby's father and I are not together, and for numerous reasons will not be getting back together. He wants to be involved in baby's life, and I see no issue with that. We plan to keep things civil for baby's good. However, I see no need to give baby his last name? In my reasoning, if baby is going to live with me, I would like matching names in our household. I know my mother and I have different last names, and it gave me numerous amount of little problems. I had to get almost everything notarized to prove she was my mother. Would the hospital put my last name regardless of his opinion?

It's your option to choose what you want on the birth certificate because you fill out all the papers whatever you think is best is what you should do

I would just use whatever name your comfortable with. In my state the mothers name is on the birth certificate by default if you're not married and the father has to file for paternity. But the hospital should choose to do what you want

You could Heifen too, and use both if it's a horrible issue, my daughter had my last name until she was 11 then wanted her daddy's, so we just legally changed it, took 5min and was free.....you can always change it later if he's still around and close to his baby

If you want his last name the hospital has no choice to put other than your last name. He might be the father but they go by the mother.

I would use my name too if I was in your position. My niece has her father's name and her brother has our families name. I know she feels left out!
