Cystic fibrosis? Test or no?

I'm a new momma first pregnancy and go to OB next Wednesday and I'm kinda freaking out over all the questions they sent through email, one of them is about CF and if we should do genetic testing on it or not and don't know what to put. Should I do more research on it before I even consent to it or were the odds really slim and not something to worry about? Please help ease my peace of mind. I'm also 7 weeks today from my calculations at home. But don't really know what to expect from the OB either.

Definitely do your research. My boyfriend and I have talked about having kids together since we first got together, now 22 weeks pregnant with a surprise baby (I was on the depo shot) were still kind of in shock and we found out when I was 5 weeks! If it had been planned and we had been together longer and if things were how we wanted them to be before we had kids we would not have done all the tests we did. Since it wasn't planned, we aren't incredibly financially stable and our living situation is pure hell we decided if anything came back abnormal we would terminate but that's our choice. Thankfully every single test came back perfect so we knew we were meant to have this child and we will make it work. Seriously do your research for the tests though, most are done by just drawing blood but others have to be done via amniocentesis which has mixed reviews on it.

I don't know any medical history on my dads side of the family and a lot of crazy stuff on my moms side. A few things are concerning on his side of the family but going to find out more from his parents tomorrow because there's just so much you don't know.

I opted out of it. We had to use donor sperm so we already know or donor isn't a carrier.  So I'm not worried at all.

I had the test done and got my results last week. Turns out I am a carrier. Now my husband is getting the bloodwork. I'd say do it, never know what you might find out for now and the future!

If there's no history of it in your family I don't see why you would need that test.

My husband and I have elected to do all testing... this was no different despite no knowledge of anyone on either side being a carrier. No matter the outcome of any tests our baby would be brought to term; we would simply want to have the extra time for research if something was suspected!

My friend has no idea it ran in her or her SOs family's. She just found out her son has CF. you never know, do your testing.

They test you for that correct? I believe I did it with my first, I had my best friend die of CF. so it's something I definitely wanted to know. thankfully I'm not a carrier.

I did it because my sister was a carrier. Come to find out, all the girls in my family are carriers, luckily none of our husbands are. If you are a carrier and your SO is not, you have zero chance of your child having it. If both of you are a carrier you have a 1 in 4 chance of them having it. Me and my husband got blood drawn to find out.
