What To Wear

Question

This guy I've been seeing is taking me out on a date next weekend. He called me and told me that the place is very formal, and I should wear a dress. He said he will either wear a suit or a tux. I have no idea what type of dress to wear. I don't want something too over the top but I also don't want something too simple. Please help! He won't give me any more clues as to where we're going.

I like to use RentTheRunway.com. You can rent a formal or semi-formal dress in 2 differant sizes, and you can get a back up dress in one size for maybe $20 extra. You could rent both a long formal and a shorter cocktail, and ask his opinion, or wait until you find out what he's wearing. I've used that site so many times, for so many different events. Once for a beauty pageant, a few military balls, to wear to a wedding when I was pregnant, and a cute cocktail outfit for my class reunion. One year I rented something for my birthday dinner. I've always had great success. The dresses range from $40 to $100-$250 for the really nice and expressive designer gowns. It's not crazy expensive. You can rent their jewelry too.

Go to CoralieBeatrix on Etsy. She makes these AMAZING infinity wrap dresses that are perfect for everything from semi-formal to black-tie. We used them as bridesmaids dresses for our wedding and they were stunning. I also wore one with lace incorporated in my engagement photos (see below).

I would go with a gown. It doesn't have to be as fancy as the one I have included. Just a similar style.  The only reason he would wear a tux would be to go to a 5 star restaurant. My husband took me to one and I was completely under dressed since I had never been to one before.

It can be some type of black tie affair. Wear something long, elegant, but not over the top. Maybe something like a satin really long, open back, figure shaping dress. I can maybe find a picture and send it to u if u want.

I would go with a black formal dress. Or maybe just go to the store and browse the formal wear. Dillards and Nordstrom always have them on clearance
