ABUSED HUSBAND HELP?!

Hi guys long story short my husband is suffering from MAJOR depression. He and his mother are having issues. He is 20 years old. Apparently they've always had issues and she abused him badly. Her entire family did. He has been choked, beaten and some other things are so bad he just cries when he tries to talk about it. He was kicked out on a 90 degree day, barefoot, forced to walk for miles. His mother has 2 other children and spoils them but she won't even speak to him. He fled his mothers home and moved in with me. She said she was proud of him for moving out an immediately rented his room so others could live there. Now we're expecting and she is trying to come into our lives just to see the baby. She claims she has no time to visit us (she works two minutes from our home) and it kills my husband he is heartbroken. He's had numerous panic attacks and depression outburst and when he tried telling his mother how he felt she wouldn't answer him. My question to you is how can I help him? I took him to the doctor and he has been off work for 5 days dealing with it but what would you suggest? Please no mean comments I'm just looking for ways to help his depression. He is on medicine but it's a sedative.
