Nursing advice for a new mom?! Help please

Question

Hi I am 37 weeks pregnant and I really want to nurse our little girl. I've read the books know the pros and cons and even know the different positions. First I wanted to know is there any trick or advice you learned that weren't in the books? And what's it like nursing for the first time? I am very nervous and I just want to be the best for her, and I have no idea what I am doing. Or at least it feels like it lol thank you in advance

-stay hydrated
-don't worry about whether the baby is "getting enough". BF babies cluster feed, sometimes want to stay latched most of the day, and sometimes they don't poop. That's okay. It's normal. 
-a good latch shouldn't hurt. detach them (stick your finger in the mouth to break suction) and try again. if it's hurting, don't sit there and suffer through it. Fix. 
-breast milk works for everything. yes, everything. Pain on your nipples? Breastmilk. Baby's skin looks a little red in one spot? Put the boobie milk on it. It's awesome.

It'll all come to you naturally. No worries sweets! Seriously though get comfy and make sure her latch is good. If it doesn't hurt the latch is good lol!! It'll make you sleepy. Like fall asleep in under a minute kind of sleepy!! It burns calories like running a marathon up a mountain 😂.

Don't bother getting any of the fancy creams for your nipples. When she's done rub your milk around em and you won't have any problems. Make sure she eats from both sides every time or you'll end up hurting and she will be hungry. But I think that's actually in the books......idk I didn't read them 😂😂😂😂. You can go by the book all you want but you'll find your own tricks and best positions for you and baby. Like I said it'll come to you naturally so don't fret. 💖💘

If a lactation consultant doesn't come to see you, go find her. When I had my first, he had a hard time nursing, the lactation consultant wasn't working that weekend. I went to see her during the week and she saved nursing for me. I'm pretty sure I would have quit if it weren't for her. I ended up needing a nipple shield for him to nurse well. Good Luck, try to

Breastfeeding if you can for one to two years is really good for you baby    I plan on breastfeeding my son due in June    I breastfed my other two.   It's a trial by error but once you figure our how to get a good latch your good I would take a breastfeeding class

Lots and lots of water. I was a freakin milk machine with my first born lol. Hoping this time goes the same way! If she has latching issues try a nipple shield. They got my son used to it and then didn't need one after like a week. If you can get past the first couple weeks, it's easy from there on out. The cracked and bleeding nipples will heal and it'll be no big deal. Totally worth it! My son self weened at 16 months and it was harder on me than it was on him haha. Good luck!

The books are so different from actually doing it hands on. My best advice is to see a lactation consultant in your area and go to a class. They show you hands on and give you tips and gifts too! My class was $25. SO much more helpful.

I don't really have any tricks, as I was blessed to not have any problems, but I will say that it's amazing!!! It's such a great bonding experience! It's also a great way to get away from it all and just have some quiet time with you and baby. Not to mention, so convenient and sooooo much cheaper. I EBF our 1st for 6-7 months and continued to BF until she weaned herself at 13 months. I never had any pain, cracking or bleeding. I pray I can do the same again! The one thing I did learn (from the lac con) was to angle baby's head back a bit so she can breath without having her nose jammed into your boob. Best advice is to relax I had trouble the first few days because I couldn't get her to latch. Plus since she had jaundice the hospital nurses pressure me to formula feed her I refused. Made me feel so bad I cried so much I instead breast pump. And at first it was painfully but eventually I did it so much they were surprise of how much milk I was getting. Anyways I BP feed her till she was month old because if I have her my breast she would fall asleep. But afterwards she was an expert latcher and she was always eating lol. But yeah relaxing helps if you don't it makes breastfeeding harder

Best piece of advice I got was that breastfeeding is all about confidence, you need to believe your body can do this and it will.  This will be my third baby and I plan to EBF again.  Also, ask for help-this is why lactation consultants and breastfeeding circles exist-use them!

All I'm going to say is, it gets easier/better ....just ignore those first few days--weeks, yea those first two weeks..just ignore them 😬😂
