Single moms-- whose last name do you plan on giving to your child?

For all the moms that have become single during their pregnancy, do you plan on giving your child your last name or your ex significant others?

I feel if you guys aren't together, and he's a great dad thus far that baby deserves to carry his name.. Too many women put their own feelings into what's best for the child..

I plan on giving my son his dad's last name simply because although we aren't together anymore I know he'll be a great father who's active in his sons life. Plus if I'm to get married one day my last name will change anyway.

My sons father hasn't been involved at all, We didn'tspeak until I turned 5 months and now he comes and goes. He's more worried about keeping his relationship with his 1st babymama than actually giving a damn about his son so my baby will have my last name. Now if he actually comes around and does what he's supposed to then we will go to the court house and change it otherwise he will have mine.

Just one question, and I hope someone gets back to me on this. But does it have any effect on the insurance? I plan to have my child on my insurance after he is born and I don't know if it's an issue if he has his fathers last name and not mine.

I gave my oldest her fathers last name and I reaaaalllly wish I hadn't. It's my only regret really.

I plan to double barrel my child's name with his and my last names , I don't really like the thought of me and my child having different last names

At first I was doing my name 100% now I'm back and forth about it. I've talk to my mom (who has never been a single mom) and she told me why we take our dads last name and the importance of it. I have also talk to his mom (who was/is a single mom) she told me why she gave him her last name. So I don't know right now lol

I'm not in the situation so I probably shouldn't vote, but I think it matters a lot if the guy is going to be in the babies life at all. Child support and that sort of thing.

I was told that if you give the child his last name, you will need his signature to do everything, even if he's not involved in the child's life. You can never move out of state, without permission, you even need his signature to go on vacation, and allot of men refuse, just to be asses. Does anyone know if these laws apply just by having him on the birth certificate? I'm terrified cause I plan on moving between the US and Europe...

Due to the father being absent (his choice) I will be giving the child my last name. If he chooses to come around and prove to me that he will be there for the long haul, I may change my mind.
