Stripping membranes or a membrane sweep?

I just heard of these but don't know exactly what they are? Any one gets these done? How do you feel about them? Any advice on them? Did they even work? Please & thank you :)

They stretch your cervix, had it done with daughter 8yrs ago and it hurts like hell! Got it done 3:30 on Friday afternoon and had my daughter 10:05 that same night! My dr gave me the option, membrane sweep or wait to be induced the following Tuesday, glad I got it done because I was home by Sunday morning!

do you have this done at normal midwife appointment or do you have to go to hospital to have this done? I'm in the UK as know this does make a difference. thanks in advance

I had it done today, didnt hurt, just discomfort. It depends how well your cervix is prepared.

My first sweep didn't work. Neither did the second, same pregnancy. They both hurt like hell!!!

I don't think I'll ever do that again!

I had it done and it worked for me. There's a 50 percent chance it'll put you into labor, just really depends on your body

Got it done earlier today. i was really scared that it's going to hurt a lot, especially because I hate vaginal examinations, but it was surprisingly alright, just slight discomfort - maybe because it was done with fingers and they didn't shove up anything in me like when they take swabs etc. Had some spotting but nothing to worry about. I hope it works because I really don't want to be induced with oxytocin...
