We went away for my 4th and his. I prefer doing what I want so I'd listen to him and just do something intimate without the celebration

I think doing something with just you two wouldn't be making it like a big social occasion that he seems to be against. That way you can show you care w/o overwhelming him with a celebration. Unless you think he is one of those people who secretly would like a surprise get together or big celebration but acts like his birthday is not a big deal to not seem imposing or emotional. I have had some friends like that but you would know your man the best.

Go on Airbnb and book something cute! Maybe with a pool and just lay out and enjoy yourselves or discover a new city or take a trip! Yellowstone? A concert? I'm surprising my husband this year with tickets to Coldplay for his bday!
