I'd like to call your attention to not only the Preamble to the Constitution, but also Article I, Section VIII. "Congress shall have the power to raise and support armies". And later the Nessesary and Proper Clause: "To make all Laws which shall be nessesary and proper for carrying into execution the forgoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in anyDepartment or Officer thereof." That's the biggest quote to the constitutionality of the draft. I have no doubt there are others. It truly is a beautifully crafted document, and very short for how powerful it is. I suggest reading it if you're curious.

I know that males over the age of 18 have to register in case they open the draft back up. But for now, joining the military is still a choice. You just have to be registered for selective service

Technically yes, it is constitutional. I think the question should instead be "Is the draft ethical?" which I find it not to be. By forcing someone to serve their country and then throwing them in jail if they do not you are taking away their basic rights.

I don't think we should be forced to participate in a war we don't agree with. Luckily my husband wouldn't be able to be drafted he has flat feet and heart problems(born with a bad murmur wasn't supposed to live).

Don't think it should be mandatory to begin with. People willingly went OUT to fight in the WW's. They were wars that the people wanted to fight (obviously no one wants to go to war but they went because it was necessary). They called draft for Vietnam because it was a useless war which was pointless and no one wanted to fight in it.

Once again, I think it to be stupid to be mandatory.
