Everyone is upset, what are your thoughts?

What are your thoughts regarding the situation that happened with the 4 year old at The Cinncinati Zoo?

A toddler told his mom he wanted to go in with the gorilla. She said no. She stopped paying attention to her child, her child then went in with the gorilla. The zoo had to kill the gorilla who is an endangered species and was just recently moved to the zoo to mate and repopulate their species. 
So what happened you ask? Mother wasn't watching her child, child almost got killed by the fall, gorilla could have killed child, gorilla was shot and killed. 
The mother is 100 percent at fault.

I don't believe in killing animals in captivity just as much as I don't think animals in the wild should be killed when we infringe on their space. Regardless of if the animal was vicious or not we only think about the child who felt threatened... Not the animal.  I read in an article that the child was talking to the mother about entering the enclosure.  Your child is 3... At that point and even before that you need to be keeping an eye on him explaining the dangers etc.  Animals just like people aren't meant to be locked up. It's sad all around for the animal and the family.

I think they had a choice to save the boy or the animal if it was my child I would be glad they chose the boy, I don't understand how he got there I wouldn't let my child out of my site especially at a zoo! I'm not sure it's anyone's fault but it's so sad an animal lost its life over something that could have been prevented

I've read so much that people have said and watched the video and I think fault falls on all. Yes the zoo should make sure no one can make their way into an exhibit of any kind but the mom needed to keep a better eye on her child. I understand kids are quick and can be gone in the flash of an eye especially if you are distracted by other things, but you are the parent you should know you limits on how well you can watch and take care of your children when you are out and about. This boy fell 10-12 feet down, thankfully wasn't hurt badly from the fall and then you have a male gorilla approach and yes drag th boy around-a baby gorilla Is much tougher than a human child and the gorilla didn't know to change its strength to adapt to that, but the gorilla didn't throw the kid against the wall, or beat him or bite him,. 
My worry about this situation is that if this boy had time to get into the exhibit without his mom noticing, he would have also had time to have been kidnapped by someone without the mom noticing. I hate that the gorilla was killed without trying something else first but this mom and kid should count their lucky stars this was the outcome

Well I live in Cincinnati! And I have a 3.5 year old girl. Let me tell you, I don't know how he got in there because it's very much protected. Weve been there a ton of times! But honestly, I don't take my eyes off her so I'm blaming mom in this one!

I'm not a fan of zoos. I don't get much joy out of looking at depressed animals. The situation is unfortunate all around. Poor gorilla, shot because someone came into his environment. Poor mom probably feels beyond guilty. The boy will probably hear about this story his whole life. The zoo would have been wrong either way, especially if the boy had been attacked. Just a sad sad story all around

I think it is so unfortunate and I know that if it was my child it wouldn't of happened. But I have seen articles completely bashing this woman as a mother and asking for criminal charges. This was a complete accident, the mother definitely should've kept a better eye on her son. But it was an accident she didn't want her baby in there she didn't think he would end up in there and it takes all of ten seconds for your child to get lost in a large crowd. The mother should feel terrible for what happened and she should learn a lesson abut her son as well but I wish people would give her a break.

However, every time I think about that gorilla being shot I just want to cry. He seemed so protective of the boy. He was being rough but if he felt the boy was a threat that boy would be dead. I wish they would've tranquilized him and got the boy out that way.

On the video clip that I saw this morning you can hear the mother saying " it's ok mommy's here" in the sweetest innocent voice ever..  i wanna scream at that mother i swear, have you ever thought about the fact that if your kid wants something you don't let them out of your sight!!!! Especially when your in public and can easily be put in this type of situation and have an endangered species shot and killed by your own negligence to pay attention to your kid who's interested in something that can kill him!!!!

I feel like both were at fault. I understand the mother had other kids with her, but she should of had her eye on the boy after he said he wanted to go in the enclosure. Or someone else should have been helping her keep an eye on all the kids. (I understand how kids can be, quick to run off and you can't keep your eyes on all of them every single second) and the zoo should make sure no child or anyone can fit and climb into the enclosure.

Mother should have kept her eyes on her child*** The zoo could have tranq'd the gorilla. Also need to reexamine the zoo habitats so people cannot find their way in with the animals~
