Homerton Hospital

Melanie

Does anyone have any experience of the maternity unit at Homerton Hospital in London? I had a mc in Jan and the staff at the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit were so great, really understanding and conscientious. I couldn't praise them enough. When I got pregnant again I didn't hesitate to go with Homerton again but so far I am a bit anxious about it.

This morning I had my first appointment with the midwife at 11w 6d. After waiting 35 mins I was finally seen. 'So you have two kids already...' No sorry I have no children just one miscarriage. 'Are you sure?! I have on your records you have 2 kids...' Think I would remember!

She then went through the social and history questions but when she gave me the info to take home I noticed she had put wrong info down. She didn't record my next of kin despite me writing down the details for her. And some questions she put the wrong answer - for example she said I had a coil fitted which isn't true. She didn't ask about my mum having me but I brought up that she had had pre-eclampsia. She just laughed as if I was an idiot and said 'oh you don't worry about that!' Maybe it is a silly thing to mention but I didn't think so.

I told her I thought I had a UTI as had burning sensation when passing urine and symptoms which I have had before. She said she would leave the medication at reception for me to pick up later in the day but instead she left me a thrush cream. So now I need to wait to try and get onto my GP tomorrow and will have to endure an uncomfortable night.

Maybe I am just being a bit overly sensitive because of my situation and previous mc but I am just a bit anxious about the level of care I will receive giving birth if basic things like this aren't right now. If anyone has experienced the maternity services here it would be great to hear from you and hopefully put my mind at rest.
