I don't think it's ok for parents to look through their kids phones. Would the parents let us kids look through their messages, pictures, emails?

If I was on their plan and they were paying, and I lived under their roof, yes. Once the plan is in your name and you pay for it, no.

Depends on age and household rules, honestly. If your parent asks to see your phone, there shouldn't be anything on there you wouldn't want them to see. Arguing that will only make you look like you're trying to hide something, inevitably making a parent more suspicious. Parents don't care about stupid convos you're having with your friends, they want you to be safe. No bullying or explicit conversations with strangers or boyfriends. Be smart.

No. It's a breach of privacy and trust. Most kids/teens will just find better ways of hiding stuff anyways. Teach your kids how to be safe and aware and let them do what they will.

Sucks but it's fair. I'm 19 now so they don't do it anymore but damn, I never paid a phone bill in my life. So I can't really say anything about it

I think it depends on how old you are and if they're paying for your phone. There's lots of bad people out there so if you don't want them reading it then don't give them a reason not to trust you
