Menstrual cup - need advice

Today was my first time using the diva cup. Inserting it was fine, painless. Couldn't feel it. I couldn't turn it at first like you're supposed to. The next morning I couldn't get it out, it felt high, kind of crooked. I tried to get my finger to loosen the suction. Couldnt. Boyfriend tried. He couldn't either. Ended up going to the hospital to get it removed. Took the doctor 3 hours to get it out. The stem was up sideways kind of.

Any advice for how to prevent this next time I use it?
