At what age do you think is no longer appropriate to breast feed?

I got into a debate with a bunch of woman on Facebook on this topic. I think breast feeding is natural and beautiful. I was sexually abused at age 7-8... and at this age, I believe it would make ME (personally) uncomfortable to breast feed my child. I was wondering how other people honestly felt. No judgements here for anyone's answers. I don't care what anyone's opinions are, they are entitled to their feelings. I just believe a 7-8 year old kid should no longer be breast fed, out of my personal opinion and feelings on the subject.

I think when a child starts drinking from a cup, they should get off the tit. I don't see a problem with pumping for them though.

To each their own though. I don't and wouldn't put a woman down for doing what she thinks is right for her children. But it would make me uncomfortable if her 5-6 yr old walked up and started breast feeding right in front of me.

That reminds me of a character on Game of Thrones. Breastfeeding into childhood is portrayed as like creepy instability. Not that I'm saying it's as bad as on tv but it does seem...odd.

7-8? Omg, I hope no one breast feeds their child when they are in 1st, 2nd grade! 8? Some girls start their period at age 8-9. Like wow! I say up until age 2 is fine.

I'm breastfeeding my child up until she goes into school or pre-k...  Of course its not going to be on my boob that would look weird. But I do want to pump and put it in a sippy cup or something. Its beneficial to them so why not if they still like it and I can still produce it. My father was breastfed for a long time and he only gets sick once a year- if that. Where as I wasn't breastfed and I'm always getting sick

After 1.5yrs old I feel like pumping would be best, but then I think about it and the way breastfeeding works is your nipple actually draws saliva from your child back in and changes according to their immune needs. So I don't know to each their own. I'm afraid of being bit so once teeth start coming in I'll be stopping.

Hearing a 4 year old child scream at there mother "I'm hungry!" Get angry and rip her top to suck her tit is what helped me decide. Once they can have a conversation with people that's when they'll be cut off. Which is before age 2

I will probably let the baby choose when to stop breastfeeding, it'll probably end up somewhere between one and two years old. Once they are three and in preschool I find that to be a bit uncomfortable and hopefully my son will have wanted to stop before three so I don't have to make that choice for him.

The WHO recommends at least til 2 but the world average is closer to 4-5 (I believe). It's really just in the US there's such a "taboo" about it. You have to do what's right for you and your baby...for some women that's pumping others it's direct latch.

Personally I think it's a personal decision and no one's business. I breastfed until my son was 2.5. He wanted to keep going but I wanted my breasts back lol I don't regret doing it that long and I don't regret cutting him off. My mom breastfed my sister until she was 6 and if she hadn't she would of never know that she had breast cancer. Nursing for as long as she did saved her life.
