What do you ladies think about uterine massage?

So I've seen a lot of women who recently said that their doctor or midwife performed a uterine massage immediately after delivery. Sometimes before the placenta is delivered, sometimes after. But I keep seeing that it cause excruciating pain, and that women don't understand why this is part of post natal care. What do you all think?
