Mine did same thing about 19 years ago.  I've known her since third grade so this was very unexpected.  She and I were walking at night from her house to my house when she said it.  We lived out in the country and we're taking a back field/woods shortcut, so there was nothing to distract us once she started saying this.  She told me that she had a crush on me for years.  I was shocked that she felt that way and wasn't sure how to respond.
