Zika- should I go to Gulf Shores?

Hi everyone. I'm currently 23weeks. Some of my family is taking a vacation to Gulf Shores, AL next week. I really want to go, but I'm nervous about the Zika virus. Part of me says this is so silly. I mean pregnant women LIVE there, so what do they do? Never go outside? But then part of me can't get over the "what if?" Scenario. I lost my last baby at 39w4d. I'm overly worried about everything. Any advice is welcome. Thanks girls!

So far there have been no reported cases of Zika in the US, so yes, go on your vacation. I was told to just make sure you wear bug spray WITH Deet in it, and make your partner wear it also because it can be transmitted to you through sexual activity.

I went to fort Walton a few weeks ago when I was 26 weeks and I didn't see a single mosquito but if I had I would have just used bug spray. I think you'll be fine, going to the beach while pregnant is actually really relaxing.

It is silly in my opinion. There are diseases that can happen on a daily basis yet no one really freaks about those. Go and have fun. It is beautiful there

I travelled to central America in my first trimester and everything was fine. Use big spray, or treat your clothes with a permetherin spray and you'll be fine.

Most of the problems have been in women who contract the virus during the first trimester, so you're probably safe, but I'd still take every precaution if you do go.

Also, is your partner going? Zika may also be transmitted sexually by infected partners, so if a partner does go, it's recommended you abstain from sex for 2 weeks (incubation period) following their return.

I'm in Corpus and mosquitoes are deadly over here. I rarely go outside, my husband has to take the dogs out.

To be honest, I wouldn't go,  but that's my opinion, only you can decide. I'm moving back to Houston in a couple of weeks with my 8.5 month old. I want him to have a sibling but mosquitos devour me despite every possible repellent precaution and so until they announce a vaccine I'm not planning to get pregnant. Let's hope they come up with one soon....I can't imagine how those poor parents feel with babies born with dreadful defects who would have been otherwise healthy.
