FTMs are you getting a convertible car seat or infant seat and why?

I was told at a car seat safety class to take back any convertible seat you have and get an infant seat for a newborn. I'm not sure why, but it's just designed more for them I guess. 
Personally I can't imagine having to wake my baby to get out of the car so I highly recommend an infant seat. That's how we shopped and ate for the first year!!

I am getting an infant seat because I want the convenience of being able to take my baby from car to house easily for the first few months because it will be winter and seems much much easier.

I originally just wanted the convertible, but my MIL insisted that we got an infant seat as well. Luckily, we had a lot of people that wanted to buy us a car seat, specifically, so we just told them which ones we wanted and they got them for us. The convertible will go in my vehicle and the infant seat will go in my husband's. I can't stand lugging those seats around, so I'll let him take care of that for me.

Convertible is not designed for a newborn like the infant seats are. We are getting both - infant for ease when baby is first born but they can grow out of those pretty fast.

I am very simple when it comes to all things baby but with something like a car seat I think it's definitely worth it to use the more wise and recommended routes.

The infant seat is smaller and light weight. I don't want to be carrying around a huge heavy car seat with an itty bitty baby in it, along with a diaper bag and who knows what else!

We're going to go with just the convertible. We don't drive a ton, plan to do some baby-wearing, and infants tend to fall back to sleep relatively quickly when one has to wake them to make them anyway.

Both. We used the infant seat for 5-6 months and now are using convertibles. The infant seat is awesome for before they can sit up in a shopping cart. We bought the travel system and put the convertibles on our registry

I have both.  My MIL bought me a travel system which has the infant seat and the my insurance sent me a gift card to buy a convertible seat,  so I am extremely lucky in that sense.  But if I was doing it on my own is probably go convertible that way I wouldn't have to keep buying as he grows.

I just used a convertible and will for the next one, but that's because the car seats here are a little different and I didn't want to have to buy an extra one.
If I wanted to get the infant seat I would have either had to buy a 0-4 convertible seat, plus a 4-8 seat, or forward face baby and get a 6 month -8 years seat which I absolutely didn't want to do.
This way I can do extended rear facing and not buy an extra seat.
I mainly used a baby carrier as well so wouldn't have gotten much use out of the infant seat while he was small enough for it.
