Period pains!

So I woke up last night with awful period pains! They woke me up quite a few times after they went away i went back to sleep! I've woken up this morning and I've got nothing! I was having Braxton hick contractions yesterday as the midwife picked them up on the monitor. But I know the pains that I was having last night weren't my Braxton hicks because they just tighten my tummy up but don't hurt! Has anyone experienced this before or know what it is?
