What's the point?

What's the point in working out if I've only gained weight? I started working out maybe a month ago and I've been afraid to weigh myself. Well today I did and turns out I've gained weight. I'm not sure if the scale was off or something but honestly if I have gained weight what's the point? I don't know what to do. I really feel like I'm not going to lose weight. What am I supposed to do? I guess if I ate half my meals that would help too right? It doesn't hurt to skip meals does it? I just don't know what to do anymore.
