FTM breast feeding tips??

Question

Im a first time mom, I plan on breast feeding but I dont really have anyone to ask for advice on how to do it.. any other mothers have advice they can give me? Ill be home with him for atleast 6-8 weeks, do I need to pump even though Ill be with him 24/7? Is it better to wear a bra or be braless at home? After i start working again, can the milk just be like refrigerated and microwaved or?? Any tips appreciated 😊

Go to a breastfeeding class! Or see a lactation consultant. The nurses/midwives at the hospital will help you to start with. Give you and the baby 6 weeks to get the hang of things. I usually go bra less at home your boobs will leak but wearing a bra all the time made my nipples hurt. Your nipples may be extremely sore to start with to so invest in a good nipple cream and some nipple shields. Never microwave milk! I just heat bottles of expressed milk in a mug of hot water. If your going back to work you should start pumping early to have a good supply frozen 😊 heres a chart of things not to worry about as long as baby's doing wees and gaining weight. Good luck! Breastfeeding is soo good for your baby and it creates such a special bond.

Wearing a bra doesn't matter as long as it has no underwire. I didn't wear one at home but only out of comfort.

My advice is to ask the lactation consultant in the hospital for the hospital pump. It's free to use and you get the parts you used to take home. That kicks off your supply. I pumped at work and I recommend pumping a lot those first few weeks to build your supply. Pump after feedings. It's supply in demand. So moms of twins produce more milk. If you are like most moms, you won't pump as much as your baby can suck out, so pumping ahead of time to increase your supply prepares you for this.

Nursing is hard, and the best advice I received was not to quit on your worst day. Keep at it. It will hurt a lot in the beginning, but I promise that goes away!

Braless is the way to go! Lol breast feeding is so rewarding! I would microwave it. Maybe a bottle warmer. On the storage bags it will say how long they can me frozen or whatever. Be strong and patience bc that's the key. Know it's not gunna a walk in park but remember it gets better once y'all both get the hang of it! You'll need some nipple cream! So if I could add a question to this post that is so hard for me to understand lol if i am going to try and use my breast milk (pumping mostly) how will i be able to feed the baby and have time to pump to use bottle...without constantly feeding/pumping?? This is all when i first come home...

I have a tip to try to help your nipples. About a month prior to birth apply coconut oil or lanolin on your nipples every night to help prepare them for breastfeeding. I did it with my first and never had cracked/sore nipples.

Nursing bras are amazing, buy the super good ones... Don't go cheap, & you'll need the pads to put in them so you don't leak onto your clothing and nipple cream. My nipples hurt so bad, also my daughter chomped a little peice off but no big deal it grows back. Lol. I actually have a hand pump and a powered one. I love the hand pump so much more. I can pump all the milk out in 10-15 min on each boob. I had a lot of milk. Also the little freezer bags are amazing. Saving your milk instead of dumping will really help you in the long run! If you put milk in the fridge because you are using a bottle make sure you boil water in a pot and put the bottle in and stir the water with it? It'll heat the bottle but also the milk inside. Obviously you know before giving it to your baby to check on your wrist so it's not too hot😊

You can refrigerate or freeze the milk. If you try to pump after feedings it will help to increase or at least keeps your supply steady. My biggest peice of advice is try not to get too overwhelmed if you start to feel overwhelmed either by baby or the starting pain or frustration when you are still getting used to it make sure baby is in a safe place and take a 5-10 minute mental break for yourself and if you need to it does not hurt to supplement a little formula to give you and your body a break. I broke down the first week with my son and my mom had to calm me down and take him and give him an ounce or two of formula just to satisfy me and let me and my body relax Cuz your emotions can effect it sometimes. And never be afraid to ask for help if you need ir. It is better to ask for help then to get burnt out or have something else happen.
