How can I tell the difference between normal pregnancy cramps and bh contractions?

BH to me feel more like a tightening so I personally wouldn't mistake them for cramps. BH also put me out of breath. Maybe they feel different for other people? They also ease up with a different position and become less of a nuisance when I drink more water.
