Discount on registry items?

I keep seeing posts about women waiting until they can get a discount on their registry items.... Is this a real thing? Like if I have an online registry, when I get close to my due date will I most likely get coupons or discounts for my items? Or is it specific places only? Stm, but first shower and registry! (Did it all on my own last time) thanks in advance!

Babies r us gives a completion coupon and 10% total of registry purchases in a gift card. I think buy buy baby gives a completion coupon as well

Amazon gives you a 15% off code once you're 60 days before your due date.
BUT, you can only use it once.
I'm saving it for after my shower so I can (hopefully) buy whatever I need with it. They also give you a discount on a lot of their baby items. SO, you can save more than 15% just by having a registry with them.

Target and Amazon both give completions discounts. That's where I registered. I think with Amazon you have a 1 time only purchase to get the discount not sure about target.

I know if you have a registry at Target 8 weeks before your due date they will give you a coupon for 15% off everything on your registry.
