My birth story
I went 41 weeks and two days with my pregnancy. At my forty week checkup I was only 1 cm diulated so it was determined I would be ripened and if necessary induced on Monday may 2nd. The week of May 2nd I had a few contractions but they weren't too bad. Then on May 2nd they were a little more intense. I even worked up until 1pm on that day teaching second grade. I arrived at the hospital at 3pm and was checked in for ripening. When they checked , I was already 3 or 4 cm diulated and 50 %effaced so they did not do ripening, instead they went straight to induction. Six hours of laboring went by with contractions that were bearable . Then around 9 pm I was told they would break my water. Hubby and I decided it would be best to have an epidural before they broke my water. So that is what we did 45 minutes prior to the scheduled time. Not 10-15 minutes after they put the epidural in my water broke on its own. I then took about a 2 hour nap. It was then time to push. Fast forward, I pushed for 3+ hours. Baby girl was hung up. Doctor said I had to have an episiotomy since it had gone so long and she kept desaturating (I think that is the term). I was tired so I gave in and snip snip. I pushed for I think about half an hour more. They put me on oxygen. Oh, I forgot to mention I had 10 other people in the room. It is a teaching hospital and I guess I made for some excitement. Well, she finally popped out with her fist in an upward motion (she does this all the time now). They wished her away to clean her off and stitch me back up (2nd degree). The resident managed to stick himself so I had the pleasure of get stuck multiple times to test my blood (protocol).
Fast forward a week later and I am still feeling horrible, can't walk, can't sit, smell horrible, and downing pain pills like it is my job. Went to the doctor and found out it was an infection and an uti, but not to worry I was prescribed antibiotics. Next day I get a call from the OB who delivered baby to come in because he wanted to see me. Went in and found out it was a little more serious infection than first believed. Was admitted and taken to surgery that evening. Reacted to one of the meds and had dystonic movements. Had a surgery the next two days to clean the infection out. Finally the fourth day I had my final surgery to close me up. I had a spinal and laughing gas given to me. I didn't feel anything below my legs so i didn't feel my bladder becoming distended. When they went to check me I felt the most pain I have ever felt (worse than contractions). I had managed to accumulate 700ml of urine in my bladder. I was told typically the bladder can hold 800ml. As soon as they put the foley in there was instant relief. I was finally able to go home the next day. Thank goodness for family willing to drive through the the night and stay for the week to take care of my baby while my hubby went back and forth between home and the hospital.
It is June 19th and I am still healing from it all and hope to be medically released and healed up by my next appointment in July. Hoping for the best. :)
