Eating/ Drinking during labor?

Question

Are any of you able to eat or drink during labor?

Answer

Yes, I ate before last time and will eat light snacks this time. Going to a birthing center and they encourage food and drinks for energy. They have a kitchen as well. I'll probably be starving afterwards again too.

When I was in labor with my son, I got to the hospital, was admitted, changed into gown, then complained how hungry I was... They let my husband go get us taco bell and pig out!! LOL guess it depends on the place your delivering... I was at Kaiser

If I'm in labor and I need something to eat or drink, they will have to rip the food out of my hands! I'm putting it in my 'birth plan.' I am not going to starve my body of energy during the hardest thing it's ever done!

When I had both my boys they wouldn't allow anything but ice chips. I think it's because if you need emergency surgery or something during then they don't want you to vomit and aspirate

Yep! My midwives encourage it. We need our strength and energy to go through hours of labor.

Nope. Ice chips only. They don't want you to eat so you don't have a BM I'm sure.

I couldn't eat during labor - puked up ice, even. And I was in labor for a long time. When baby finally got here, I hadn't eaten for about 20 hrs.

I ate lunch before I checked in and had a few Popsicles they gave me. Threw it all up.

At my birthing class last week the instructor said if you want to eat a meal do! Pack snacks in your hospital bag as well. That's in England though

They kept encouraging me to eat food while in labor but I didn't feel like it so they brought me broth and jello.
