Is it bad to put a tampon in when not on your period?

I'm suppose to start my period soon and I don't wanna start it at work. I work at a huge water park and I'm just starting and I don't know the ends and outs of bathroom breaks and rotates because I'm a lifeguard. Would it be bad to put a tampon in just in case I start my period?
