Breastfeeding and Custody

Can breastfeeding affect custody?

My husband and I are going through separation and will be getting a divorce next year due to having to be separated a year. He lives about 10 hours away in a different state. I have already chosen to breastfeed, but he wants to fight for sole custody. Can me breastfeeding be a factor in my favor for this situation?

I have offered him visitation if he comes to my state. Being that my pediatrician said it's not recommended for babies to travel for a year after birth due to vaccinations, I am against traveling there. He wants it to where he gains full custody right after birth.

Anybody experienced with a situation like this?

More or less they won't grant him full custody unless the seek you unfit and especially since the baby would be a newborn. I would start looking for a lawyer to help you build up your case . Good luck ! I hope all goes well

Usually the court will favor the mother unless you are unfit for some reason, so it is likely he would have no choice but to do shared custody or visitation. However, because of the distance, a court might rule that you have to travel there for shared custody and most pediatricians will clear a baby for domestic (non international) travel after 2 months, and international at 6 months, assuming they are otherwise healthy. Breastfeeding exclusively would only get you by until around 6 months when the baby could start solids.   I would start consulting a lawyer ASAP.
