Long string of discharge???

So this is my first post and probably TMI... But, I'm in my first trimester and I just had a long gooey string of discharge come out of my purse (vagina) while I was in the bathroom. I've googled it I saw something about a mucus plug, but that I shouldn't get it until a week or so before I go into labor. Seeing how I'm in my first trimester, I'm extremely confused on why I had this discharge. I have an appointment tomorrow to draw my blood so I'm going to bring it up to my doctor then. But I just need to ease my mind and make sure nothing terrible is happening.
