I'm all for whooping . But it's never my FIRST option.  I give a warning that comes with a nice talk then the second time I explain fully what was wrong and I take something or go up on bed time 
 Third time you know better you just ignoring my wishes so yes I whoops ass. But at the age of 8 I've stopped with my son UNLESS IT'S SOMETHING EXTREME. he is old enough to understand and usely the warning is all he needs . Now my three year old gets pops frequently! She usely gets the picture after a whooping or two. I don't BEAT MY KIDS but I do whoop I'm not ashamed .

I'm never going to lay a hand on a child. Ever. My parents raised 4 kids without physical punishment and we all turned or pretty great. We have great relationships with our parents and all of us have done well academically and socially (and for me I've done well in the adult world as well- my siblings are still teens with one just starting university now). I can remember multiple times when a stranger would tell my parents how respectful and well behaved we were- be that on a plane, restaurant or school teachers/administrators. I don't think hitting your child leads to them respecting you or anyone else. I've been slapped across the face once by an adult family member for my behaviour. And though I'll admit I was being a brat I have never had much respect for that person since. You can punish a child and teach them respect and about consequences without hitting them.

But anyways, to answer the question.. Whenever they're more threatened by me taking something away from them - phone, car, free time, going out etc. But honestly, I'll probably never fully stop. I'm 25 yrs old & my mom will still smack my hand sometimes 😂.

I started when my daughter was young like b4a year old and now I haven't had to do it in 2 years. She hates getting in trouble and she is a people pleaser.
