Is it silly to be kind of sad about not having a baby shower?

Question

This is my first baby, and even though he wasn't planned I know he is a blessing. The father won't be involved at all, he doesn't want kids and we don't even speak anymore. I don't really have any friends or much family where I live, and my best friend lives hours away.

I was hoping that the other women at my work would throw me one, like they have for others in the past, but I don't really get along with them and our new male boss doesn't like celebrating anything.

It's not that I care so much about the presents, even though they would be nice, it's that I feel like it's a celebration of his upcoming entrance to the world. I didn't care until I saw other women I sort of know having them.

I'm 26 weeks and haven't bought much since everything is so expensive.

I feel the same way as you. I have one good friend and will be moving away halfway through my pregnancy (military), so I know I probably won't have a shower and this is my first pregnancy. I just try to remember that I do have people in my life that care and I plan to get most of my baby stuff from garage sales this summer! 😊

I felt the same way this is my 3rd and I know it's not traditionally proper to have more than one shower (according to my grandma) but my first was 11 yrs ago, last year we did one bc I hadn't had a baby in forever and everyone was super excited, now this is my last pregnancy dont want anymore kids and i have 2 boys and now this is a girl she'll be my youngest child and only daughter and no one is super excited about the pregnancy (except me and my husband bc it's a girl) I wasn't going to throw a shower bc i didnt wanna spend alot of money but kinda wanted one to kinda celebrate my last child and finally getting to have pink, girly things when I tried to start planning to have it grandma broke my heart bc she straight up said I didn't need one and if i threw one it would be a waste of money and i was stupid for thinjing of having one and i was so sad but my cousin who has been pregnant with me the last two times is so excited it's a girl (she had back to back boys) she said she would do it and I feel like a brat for complaining to her but am so glad she wants to do it for me I totally get how u feel and what about you express your desire to have a baby shower to whatever friends or loved ones you do have even if they have to drive kinda far to have it bc ur already doing the whole thing by urself they should be there to show support at least by eating some cake and giving you some diapers or something or you can throw one urself and invite people from work and stuff

Ok I have never had a baby shower and it's my third pregnancy. I to don't have much family I was adopted at the age of five. I really don't communicate with anyone. We live in a small town, anyway what I wanted to tell you is this. I bought everything for my second with 200 counting the carseat and this one I got everything that was left over from our church  yard sale totally for free.  Visit your local churches. I promise God will give you everything you need by the time the baby is born. Have faith. I am using the baby carseat from my 16 month old.

Why not plan a lunch or something to celebrate with the people from your job?

I'm in your exact situation so I know how you feel. My mom lives near by and wants to throw me one, but I am relying on that for a lot of baby stuff. Do you have a friend outside work you could ask? Even if it's not someone super close, you could still ask! I would offer to do as much as I can though and just say you don't want to be the host of the party but you'd like to help in anyway. At least that's how I feel. I would throw you one if I were near you!!!

If you have any aquantances you could have a get together. Not a shower but a before baby get together girls day or something. Throw it yourself, and let it be known that you are looking for a girls day, get together or day of fun before the baby.
