Working after baby

So the plan is to have the baby and get back to work asap.... Most Mommy's take the 6week maternity leave but I just don't have that option sue to bills, rent,life, ect... How quickly do you think someone can return back to work after a baby? Is waiting 6weeks a must? Or mandatory?
