Genetics testing?

I agreed to get my genetics test done in 3 weeks. My friend is giving me hell for it. She swears it's dangerous for the baby. She said they stick a needle in the sac and draw blood from there. Is this true?!

That's amniocentesis. They take fluids from the sac, used to test for chromosome abnormalities. 
I don't know what genetic testing involves to be honest but if they mention amnio say no. If you're not high risk for downs syndrome there's no need and there is also a chance of miscarriage. If it's just bloodwork there's nothing to worry about

The genetic testing is just getting blood drawn.  An amniocentesis is what is thinking about.

your friend clearly hasn't had a baby any time recently. your doc is talking about very basic bloodwork! the tests are newer, and can also tell gender. amniocentesis is reserved as a possible (and optional) test if someone's results come back high risk. do not let other people stress you out!

They don't do amniocentesis unless you're extremely high risk.

Genetic testing is a simple blood tests. They test mainly for the 3 main trisomy genetic disorders. You can do a full panel screening with a mouth swab or blood.

I had 23,000 genetic tests done pre-pregnancy as did my husband- simple blood draw.

I'm 18 weeks and they just did the trisomy testing and it was only a blood draw. 
Always consult with your doctor as most of our friends and family believe their fake degree from University of Google stands up next to a PhD, which it does not

They have a new testing where they draw your old only that the one I had done. Came to my house took the blood and sent it off to get tested

Is it your 12 week screening where they screen downs .. trisomy 18 and something else? If so no has nothing to do with an amnio (needle to amniotic fluid) its a detailed US with blood work done on you then 3 weeks later youll go and have more blood drawn
