It's not right for my family. My son never cries just to cry. So at 13 months old, I still respond every single time regardless of circumstances. And sometimes, he just needs comfort. That's okay to me. Him having a healthy bonds and a secure sense of trust that his needs will be met is far more important than anything else to me. My instincts tend to coincide with the Attachment Parenting model. His sister will be provided with the same comforts.

My question is how could you ever possibly know if they have everyhing they need? They can't talk, they can't point to anything that might be hurting, they can't tell you "hey, I'm lonely" or "I'm scared" etc.

Never let my son cry out I just couldn't do it to him.. He is now 21months old we lay him in his cot at 7pm and don't hear a single peep out of him till 6am.. 
Until 1 month ago he used to fall asleep on me every night and be carried up to bed but me and hubby could just tell he didn't want that anymore and we where right..

I didn't with my daughter. It's common in my family to let a baby cry themselves to sleep but to me it sounds horrible and I don't really see the point. If they are crying they want/need something. Even if it's comfort. My daughter will be 3 in a few weeks and she sleeps just fine in her bed that's in her separate room. All I need to tell her is its night time. The first few months were horrible because she wasn't the best sleeper but as she aged she slept naturally.

I'm a big fan of the cry it out method but this post is actually against what I believe in. I followed the Ferber method and went in at regular intervals explained in the method. The cry it out method is not about letting your baby cry himself to sleep for a long time. In just a week if the method, my son (four months old at the time) knew healthy sleep habits and put himself to sleep when he'd want in the middle of the night. Now he loves his bed! He's two and has always slept 12-13 hours straight. When he cries now, I know he actually needs me.

I didn't with my first. I tried one time when she was about 9 months after several people had urged me to. It was awful - she became absolutely hysterical and I will never forget how shrill and terrified she seemed. We co-slept until she was 2. She now sleeps in her own bed without a problem. I will adjust however the next one, our little man, needs. No crying it out for us.

I plan to start sleep training around 6 months.  Will use the Ferber method if necessary.  I believe some level of self soothing is important!

I never did the cry it out method - wasn't my style. I currently have a sound asleep 3 year old in his own bed in his room.
