Eating before glucose test?

Question

I have my glucose test early in the morning tomorrow and I would rather not do it on an empty stomach because I've heard the stuff you have to drink is nasty. However, I'm nervous to eat something that will effect my results. I was thinking some toast with butter...what would you recommend? Thanks!

They recommend that you not eat anything at all because any little thing can throw the test off and then you'd have to do a 4 hour test where you drink the drink again and get your blood drawn every 4 hours. I'd not eat anything!

I ate an egg over half an English muffin and I passed mine. I have heard to make sure you don't eat a lot of carbs.

Update: I had a bottle of water and a high protein breakfast. I am currently at the doctor, just drank the stuff and it wasn't too bad. Fruit punch flavored :) now we wait! Fingers crossed I don't have to do the 3 hour one

I was told I can eat anything I want just not anything super sugary or high carbs. I had Ezekiel toast with cream cheese and some veggies an hour before I drank it and I passed with flying colors. Personally I thought the drink was VILE but that's probably bec I only drink water usually lol

I didn't eat before mine, I was told not to with my first pregnancy. So I just followed with this one even though it's a different doctor and they didn't mention anything about fasting or not. When I got to the lab where I would take the test they did question whether I ate or not and were relieved to hear that I didn't.

Yes I was super hungry the entire time, this pregnancy, I eat with no end.

Soon as I was finished I ran out of there and chopped down the first thing I could get.

I made the mistake of fasting and then I almost fainted!!! The person administering the test said that fasting was a bad idea and that I definitely should have eaten !

My doctor told me not to have anything with carbs or sugar before the test. I had a plate of scrambled eggs and a glass of water (suggested by Doctor) and drank the glucose solution about 45 minutes before my appointment at 28 weeks. My levels came back great. I have my 36 week glucose test next week & I plan to do same thing. I'm not sure what other offices use because I have heard a lot of women complain that the solution is nasty and test is awful, but from my experience, the solution tasted like a super sugary version of orange koolaid, it actually tasted pretty good. My doctor also told me to avoid sweets for the rest of the day because the solution puts a lot of sugar in your system. Basically, I had no problems and drink wasn't nasty. Good luck!
